The forthcoming iPhone 5 is rumored to feature an all-new display which will come packing a massive 1.5 million pixels.
If true this means the display will have around twice as many pixels as the current iPhone 5.
Chinese site WeiPhone.com, which is making the claims, also says the device will feature a narrower bezel and a narrower screen frame and could be ready to ship by September.
Now obviously the resolution would depend on whether the screen size stays the same or increases and the website does not give any clues as to how Apple might achieve the significantly beefed up display.
However given that Apple the current iPhone and the latest iPod touch have undergone resolution increases the question is being asked about whether the company would want to repeat the process quite so soon.
MacRumors said: “That shift has required app developers to tweak their apps to support the taller display, a burden that Apple would surely prefer not to repeat just a year later.
“The previous change for the iPhone display was the move to a Retina display for the iPhone 4, yielding an interval of a little over two years between that change and the taller display of the iPhone 5.”
Some commentators are also casting doubts on WeiPhone’s suggestion that the new iPhone will feature a narrower bezel – pointing out that Apple has tended to keep the body design for two generations before making any major changes.
